COMMUNITY

  • Chapel

    Community Gatherings

After we built the chapel/auditorium, we made it available to the community. A church was started there - WISDOM Christian Church.

    Recovery

Alcoholism is a huge problem in this slum. Some of our mission team members have started training community members in the Celebrate Recovery program.

  • Adult Education

    Adult Education

We have a goal of providing classes for adult education for the community.

We have the facilities to provide training in:

Cooking (they call catering) - This training would provide skills to obtain a job as a cook or to start their own catering business.

Sewing/ Tailoring - We also have sewing machines for the high school students to learn how to sew in their Home Ec class. Tailoring skills provide lots of opportunities for employment.

Computer - Being proficient with a computer increases a worker’s chance of being employed.

  • Girls seminar

    Early Marriage and Childbearing

Zambia has a high rate of pregnancy among young girls and early marriage among teens is still prevalent. Teens who have children have a morbidity rate.

We are providing seminars for the teens girls, their parents, and boys to address this issue. One of our current teachers will be an onsite advisor for the girls.

We are providing them with medical advice and practical solutions - and most of all - encouragement to stay in school.

  • Water for the Community

    Water

Most homes in this slum do not have a well and there are no water or sewer lines in this community.

The WCS water well serves the community. The hose runs from the well and people in the community line up to fill their buckets.
